Frustrations In Painting And Posting:

For the past several days, on this family desktop computer, Microsoft Word has not been functioning as it should. As soon as I attempt to save the document that I have been working on (a newly created one), the program becomes a freeze frame until finally I am prompted to click the "End Now" button, at which point the program promptly pulls a Houdini. The words that I have written disappear quite similarly, and because the program has already frozen I can't even manage to copy and paste them. However, I was fortunate enough to make use of the handy "Print Screen" button on my keyboard. I am actually so tired and so lazy right now that I do not have the effort to type it again, so here is an image of the text attained by said button. (It will enlarge if you click it.)

Text_1

The most that Microsoft Word was able to salvage was "This morning, I was awoken." Right now I am typing this in the "Post Introduction" window via TypePad (a process which I have never trusted because at any moment something could go wrong with the computer and I could lose everything). Now that you have read about my day, you can understand why I would be so tired. There are a few things that I neglected to mention before I made the mistake of trying to save my document. First of all, I did not realize that we would be painting. The organization that which we were helping is called "Rebuilding Together," and somehow that did not make me think of painting. As a result, when I was getting dressed this morning, I was not thinking, "Is there anything in this closet that I wouldn't mind seeing get ruined?" I do not mind that my jeans got off-white paint on them, because they actually had some yellow paint on them already. (This wasn't my first painting job, and it won't be my last either.) I don't even mind that one of my five "Yuck" shirts got messy as I was hauling large bags of ice before the painting started. However, I am quite upset that I chose to wear my entirely black Converse sneakers. The mess of an off-white painting job has caused them to lose some of their effect.

I hope that you do not think that I am an awful person for spending so much time complaining about my experience volunteering to help improve a school. If it is any consolation, I am about to change the subject. First of all, I want to admit that I really got spoiled by the practice of transcibing handwritten jounal entries, but I also feel that I must say that you probably have not seen the last of this form of post. Quite frankly, for a short while I found it very difficult to get into the whole blogging state of mind, and I expect that that will happen again in the future. It would be awfully nice if I actually knew if I should be apologizing for this practice of transcribing, or if instead those entries are just as entertaining as the rest. If I had to put the blame on something, my scapegoat would be this long holiday break that I have been on for several days, which has caused me to channel much of my effort and my creativity into other areas.

Speaking of which, this holiday break is nearly over now. Tomorrow is the last day of the vacation. I will return to school on Monday. Part of me is eager to go back and see the people that I've missed, while another percentage of me wants to stay here at home where I have time to draw what I want to draw, write what I want to write, and read what I want to read. Unfortunately, I do not have much say in this matter. Right now, I am going to make the most of these last twenty-six and a half hours. Thanks very much for reading.

End Post.

Microsoft Word is an absolute disaster. I refuse to even use it anymore. For blog entries, you'd probably do just fine using Notepad, which will definitely never crash. For almost everything else, you can get by with Wordpad, which is what I use to write school papers. For everything else, there's OpenOffice, which is free.

Good to know. Thanks, Tvindy.
