I drew something today. I had a lot of free time, and I just felt like I needed to be creative by some means that I hadn't explored in a long while. This was fun to draw. Though that guy does have Leo's haircut, he doesn't appear to have a mechanical hand. Also, I would not want to see Leo suffer this fate. So, let's just call this guy Dirk, shall we?

Life:

Those familiar with DeviantArt may also understand the "Hundred Pictures Challenge." Personally, I have no idea how this idea started. I learned about it through this journal entry from this talented artist. While I am not really taking the challenge myself, I have chosen to use the topics on the list as inspiration so that hopefully I won't abandon artwork ever again. I especially love this list because each item is vague enough to be artistically interpreted in countless different ways. Seen above is a sketch that I drew earlier today, inspired by the first of the hundred topics: "Life."

Behind You:

Last night, I actually finished a drawing (one that I started weeks ago) for the first time in over a month. I sincerely hope that this will not be my last drawing to commemorate Halloween 2006. (And yes, I realize that all my knowledge of drawing bats comes from the Batman symbol. Sue me.)

Ashes:

I considered coloring this one with Photoshop, but soon I decided that it would look much better simply pencil shaded. I have drawn more on the page, but you can get the idea of it from this portion. A number of things led to the creation of this drawing. The most important stimulus was that I see a very poetic quality in cigarettes. (That is to say, they are poetically fatal.) Also, a few particular artists inspired me to draw this one (and may influence some of my sketches in the future), but I do not care to mention them as inspiration because that might insult them. (If someone told you that your work was the inspiration for some amateur pile of mediocrity, you probably wouldn't be flattered.)

I'm very glad that I got this piece finished already, because the timing is superb, considering that later today Brian and I will, more that likely, finally record the first episode in the new season of our podcast. I am psyched. Wish us luck.

This is the sole thing that I drew during my weekend at ConnectiCon. I totally forgot about it until very recently. Upon showing this to a fellow con attendee, I was asked if I read the webcomic "El Goonish Shive." Apparently, this sketch must clearly reflect my greatest influence.
